Wapa-nawa, Recycling Rundu
2024
Wapa-nawa is interested in continuing to work with our project, as are the people who were involved in the collections. With little effort, they keep their homes and their surroundings clean, help to ensure that their animals no longer eat plastic waste, and earn a small income.
The big question is how the garbage can continue to be transported to Rundu. Wapa-nawa has only one vehicle and this is mainly used in Rundu.
We would like to expand our cooperation and take over the transportation, but unfortunately we are unable to do so because we do not have a vehicle.

Since then, Blandine and her neighbors have been collecting plastic waste.
Ladislaus Shikerete and his team visited the collection point in front of Blandine's house in spring and promised to pick up the mountain of plastic for processing as soon as possible. Logistical reasons delayed the pickup, and Blandine's front yard became increasingly filled with plastic waste, and the mood became somewhat tense. But if not in Africa, where else do you learn to wait patiently and that in the end everything will fall into place.
So we kept in touch with Wapa-nawa and at the end of the year Wapa-nawa and his team drove the 200 km to us. The plastic was weighed and the collectors were paid.
2023
In November, we contacted the newly founded recycling company Wapa-nawa in Rundu for the first time because we liked the concept of the young entrepreneur Ladislaus Shikerete. Wapa-nawa has found a method to produce building blocks with plastic waste and sand, be it for the construction of houses or composite stones.
At our first meeting, we got to know each other and looked at the possibility of creating jobs in Andara. In our district, too, a lot of plastic waste is scattered all over the landscape and collecting the waste would be a small source of income for the local people.
The founder of the company showed interest in working with us. We put her in touch with Blandine, who is responsible for the collection in our region, and purchased large bags. Ladislaus Shikerete promised to contact Blandine and discuss the collaboration.
