Frans Dimbare, Rural youth skill training center
Frans Dimbare rural Youth Skills Training Center is a vocational training center in Kavango East in the village of Diyogha. The center is under the Ministry of Youth, National Service, Sports and Culture and has been providing services directly to youth in rural Kavango since its establishment in 1997. Through vocational training and other programs, the youth of the region are empowered to realize themselves and find employment.
Our project was asked by those responsible at the Frans Dimbare Center whether we could support students in the practical implementation of what they had learned.
2026
June
Students from the Frans Dimbare Institute work alongside our team to carry out minor repairs and construction projects.
One particular challenge is that we can only take on projects if we can purchase the necessary building materials in advance. However, our financial resources are limited. As a result, we are often forced to turn down or postpone projects, even though the work is urgently needed.
With a stronger financial foundation, we could take on more projects, procure the necessary materials in a timely manner, and at the same time support even more young people in practical skilled trades.
April
The lightning strike at our retail store not only terrified people but also caused significant property damage. The enormous electrical current damaged several electrical devices, machines, and tools that were connected to the power grid at the time of the strike. Many of them have been inoperable ever since.
This now presents us with an additional challenge: We urgently need to purchase new equipment and tools so that we can resume our daily work without restrictions and accept orders again.
The damage has a direct impact on our daily operations. Without the necessary machines and tools, we can only carry out repair and construction work to a limited extent. As a result, we are not only losing important work opportunities but also the chance to continue providing hands-on training to young people and imparting valuable experience in the trades to them.
2025
End od November, agricultural students received training in pig farming at our project site. Since the storm tore off the roof of the barn, the pigs are now being cared for outdoors near the residential building.
We have formed a working group with students and carry out construction work on behalf of clients. This work is in high demand. Young people and adults want to earn their own living through meaningful employment/work in order to provide for themselves and their families.
Thanks to the sun protection over the garden, the young plants now have enough strength to grow, so we can confidently hope for a good yield from the garden in the coming months.
Cow manure continues to be collected and brought to the garden so that the soil has enough nutrients.
Transport costs for the materials are high, so we try to bring as much as possible home in our own vehicle.
Overloading vehicles is commonplace and rarely results in fines from the police.
Together with the students, Mr. Malasa forged the entrance gate to our project.
The furniture that Sebastian makes with his students is displayed on the road to Andara Hospital and offered for sale.
We provide Sebastian, an unemployed carpenter, with a room so that he can carry out his carpentry work in a protected environment. The machines we have received as donations make his work much easier. Sebastian is always in a good mood and involves interested young people in his daily work and work processes as much as possible.
Students training in construction are helping to build guest rooms for staff at the nearby hospital. They make the bricks themselves and use them as soon as they are dry.
Qualified bricklayers work hand in hand with the students and pass on valuable experience to the young people.
At the beginning of the summer, we were delighted to expand our collaboration with the Frans Dimbare Institute.
Our own agricultural knowledge was insufficient and yields were low. Since June, horticulture and agriculture students have been coming to us to put their theoretical knowledge into practice under the expert guidance of their teacher Kosmas. We are responsible for transportation and meals and make a contribution to the institute.
2024
The collaboration currently consists of practical training in welding technology. Since the end of 2024, 4 students have been completing their internship with us on the project.
Together with Mr. Malasa, the students make bedsteads, tables, shelves, grave borders and carry out repair jobs in the area. The internship is greatly appreciated by the young people and offers them an opportunity to escape poverty and unemployment through their own efforts.
